Measure all around the body total circumference. Any other position can and will cause distortion in your body proportions and make some parts of your body look longer or shorter. Make sure that when you circle your chest waist or hips the tape is level and neither too tight nor too loose. Measure the fullest part of your hips and back side making sure to keep the tape is one again level and loose. You will want to use a soft cloth or flexible plasticrubber tape measure such as is used in sewing. And this may sound silly but dont trust your memory be sure to write the measurements down.
Consistency is key so make sure youre taking your measurements the same way each time. Then the horizontal measurements.
